A large city park – We recommend dedicating a portion of your Tivat holiday to a part of the city park located near Przno Beach. The reason for such a visit may be the fact that relaxing and walking in nature can never be enough. However, we will conclude our knowledge of the large city park, or the green oasis as it is also known, with the fact that the park boasts the largest botanical garden in the Southern Adriatic. Indeed, records confirm that the park covers an area of 4 hectares.

The park was established on the lands of the famous Tivat noble families Radali and Luković. The botanical garden is better known as the Naval Forces Park. It is interesting to note that in 1892, Admiral Maximilian Daubleskifon Sternek, commander of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy’s war fleet, came up with the idea of cultivating the area around the former naval shipbuilding facility and the battle fleet, better known as the Tivat Arsenal. So, in 1892, Admiral Fon Sternek issued an order in which he bound all captains of the Austro-Hungarian navy to bring back from their voyages various samples of herbs and plants.

After their voyages across distant seas, specimens of various exotic grasses were brought back to Tivat, which still exist today in the Tivat Botanical Garden. Today, the Greater Tivat City Park houses several specimens of these ancient and valuable plants: Chilean fir, various types of fir, cedars, pines, palm trees, magnolias, and other attractive trees, herbs, and plants.

The Greater Tivat City Park is the only protected area in the Tivat region. The decision to do so dates back to 1968. However, recently, there has been a growing consensus that better decisions regarding the park’s preservation and revitalization are needed. According to reports, this will soon be the responsibility of the Tivat Municipality and the Montenegrin Nature Conservation Bureau.
